Litchfield Homes

Known as the “hub” of Central Illinois, Litchfield has many hidden treasures. Located along I-55, Litchfield is approximately one hour from St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois. This great city has experienced economic growth beyond its expectations. With two industrial parks, an airport, regional educational center, and full service medical facilities, the City of Litchfield is perfect for attracting newcomers.  Litchfield takes great pride in being a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.   Enjoy many conveniences of city life in a family-friendly, warm community.  With 6,939 residents, Litchfield is a traditional American town offering an assortment of thriving businesses, good educational resources and exciting recreational choices.

Educational facilities in the City of Litchfield are top notch. Litchfield School District is fortunate to have a staff that is student-friendly and works hard to ensure that students’ needs are met.  A newly constructed high school provides such facilities as a new football field, soccer field, all weather track, baseball field and practice facilities.  Zion Lutheran School provides a quality education that strives for academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment.  They serve Pre-K through 8th grade.  Lincoln Land Community College Southern Region Educational Center began servicing the area in 1996.  LLCC offers a wide range of college transfer, developmental and occupational courses for both day and evening classes.

St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield is the largest hospital located between St. Louis and Springfield.  This hospital has a full range of primary care services, including state-of-the-art imaging for diagnostic purposes and physical, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation.  The Emergency Department has physicians on duty 24 hours a day and a heliport is also on site.  Over 30 specialists visit the hospital on a weekly basis and there is an excellent team of family practice physicians, orthopedic surgeons and general surgeons on staff.

Litchfield is proud to have the last operating drive-in movie theater on the “Mother Road” Historic Route 66, the Sky View Drive-in.  It is open weekends from early April until the end of October.   The Ariston Café, which is one of the oldest restaurants along Historic Route 66, was inducted into the Route 66 Hall of Fame in 1992 and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.  Both of these historic landmarks are must-stops for those making the Route 66 tourist pilgrimage.  Besides the Sky View Drive-in, Litchfield also has a 4-cinema movie theater, Westside Cinema.

Litchfield provides many outdoor recreation opportunities.  Lake Lou Yaeger and its amenities keep visitors coming back year after year.  The 1200+ acre lake offers the best in boating with 45 miles of beautiful shoreline and is a favorite for water and jet skiers because there is no horsepower or speed limit.  Lake Lou Yaeger offers two excellent marine facilities and a staffed swimming beach with bathhouse, lifeguards and concessions.  The lake is stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish.  The surrounding 300-acre park area has five beautiful picnic areas, two playgrounds, pavilions, restrooms, and convenient sanitary outdoor stoves. The two campgrounds offer both primitive and trailer camping.  Historic Walton Park is located at the south edge of Litchfield.  Walton Park has picnic tables, playground areas, horseshoe pits and a pavilion with fireplace that makes  this peaceful serene area a great place for a family gathering.  Walton Park also features a beautiful 9-hole disc golf course.  Echlin Park is approximately 5 acres and includes three baseball fields for little league play, basketball court, playground, picnic tables, pavilions and restrooms.  Madison Park is approximately 2.1 acres. Madison Park includes baseball and soccer practice areas, lighted tennis courts, basketball court, playground equipment, benches and picnic tables.  Schalk Field is 2.6 acres and has two youth sized baseball diamonds.  Both diamonds are equipped with lights and scoreboards. Schalk Field is also the site of the new City Skate Park open to skateboards, rollerblades, etc.  Plummer Park has a ball diamond, three small shelters, basketball courts, a handicap accessible playground area, and picnic tables and benches. It is located on 3.4 acres.  Davis Park is an 18 acre park that includes two lighted tennis courts, one multi purpose court, soccer fields, small shelter, playground equipment, picnic tables and benches. Included on this property are the Litchfield Memorial Pool and the Litchfield Community and Senior Citizen’s Center.  Litchfield Memorial Pool is open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, weather permitting.  The pool has an outdoor swimming pool, baby pool, bathhouse and concession stand.  Litchfield Sports, Inc. is the city’s indoor sports and training complex offering batting and pitching cages and a turf field for soccer players.  Golfers can practice their swing using the facility’s golf machine.  Litchfield Country Club has a private 9-hole golf course.
